Bina Patel received her Doctor of Optometry degree from Indiana University, Bloomington Indiana USA and completed a residency in higher diagnostics and therapeutics at Oklahoma State University College of Optometry, Tahlequah Oklahoma. She is a full time member of the faculty The New England College of Optometry.
She currently is the director of International programs and has been instrumental in developing post graduate educational programs in Optometry internationally.
She is involved in lecturing in several courses at the college with an emphasis in primary eye care, teaching principles and practice of optometry including diagnostic techniques. She previously taught optometry interns and provided eye care services to community based health centers around the Boston area. She continues to provide volunteer eye services to the underserved population in Latin America and in addition currently working as a certified image reader at the Joslin Diabetes Center’s Beetham Eye Institute which specializes in diabetes eye care.
She is currently serves on several committees such as the Volunteer Optometric Service to Humanities (VOSH region committee), American Schools and Colleges of Optometry - International Optometric Education Committee for World Council of Optometry. In 2015 she was awarded by World Council of Optometry as Optometrist of the Year.
