I’d like to welcome you to the 2nd World Congress of Optometry, a biennial global event that is being held in Hyderabad, India from 11th to 13th September 2017. It is a great privilege for IVI (India Vision Institute) to co-host such a global optometry event along with the WCO (World Council of Optometry) and APCO (Asia Pacific Council of Optometry). This event is an incredible opportunity to forge new connections in the optometry world at an international level.

Indian optometry is at a very exciting stage right now, and this event is a great platform that will help promote and strengthen the profession in India. Many eminent eye care professionals from across the globe will be at this event, presenting the latest in optometry. The global exposure will be invaluable whether the subject is new research or innovative educational methods.

For the last five years, IVI has done a great deal to strengthen optometry in India with various industry-building initiatives such as seminars, workshops and leadership programs which feature the expertise of both Indian and international specialists. Along with these initiatives, IVI also conducts awareness activities such as Walk in the Dark to raise awareness of the importance of eye care. One of our primary objectives is providing quality eye care to the underprivileged and IVI conducts vision screenings and distributes free spectacles to those in need. Tens of thousands of underprivileged children and adults benefit from our outreach programs every year. Our goal is to elevate optometry in India and provide accessible and affordable eye care to all regardless of their location or socio-economic status.

This conference is a wonderful opportunity to visit the beautiful and historic city of Hyderabad which has a rich cultural heritage. We encourage our international attendees to tour the city which was ranked the 2nd best place to see worldwide by National Geographic TRAVELLER magazine 2015.

We look forward to seeing you at the 2nd WCO. We hope you will attend this unique event and help shape the future of optometry in India.
